Construction work on the new Navua Hospital has already started.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Shalvin Deo said staff quarters and in-patient facilities were under construction following a geological assessment.
“The work is expected to be completed by mid of next year,” Mr Deo said.
“The new Navua Hospital, funded by the Chinese Government, is expected to house 22 beds and the main works will include an outpatient clinic, emergency clinic, medical technical rooms, inpatient rooms, administrative and supporting facilities.”
He says the current Navua hospital is located on a flood prone area.
“The main reason for relocation of the site was experiences of major flooding during heavy rain in Navua where the old hospital was affected.”
The new Navua Hospital will have a construction area of over 3000 square meters and can house 22 beds at Namelimeli, about five minutes drive out of Navua Town towards Suva.
“Once completed, the new Navua Hospital will provide high-quality medical and health care for local residents in that area,” Mr Deo said.
