The most interesting project been talked about around Fiji and just in our backyard is the planned Namosi copper mine, a joint venture between Newcrest mining of Australia and Japanese company Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Newcrest been the operator and manger of the project. Should this go ahead it will mean massive opportunities in all avenues of business in Pacific Harbour and surrounding areas.
This year Namosi Joint Venture (NJV) has already provided $130,000 to 119 students during Semester 1, 2012 and applications for Semester 2 closed last week. The Education Assistance Program is for students from the provinces of Namosi and Tikina Waidina, Naitasiri who need financial support to attend or complete relevant tertiary education or vocational courses.
The Namosi Joint Venture (NJV) is exploring for mineral resources in the Namosi and Naitasiri provinces approximately 30 kilometres west of Suva.
No mining is currently taking place.
